Stage «X»: Experiment, Crossover, Unknown
Welcome to the second lecture in the series on contemporary music, presented as part of the anniversary season of the EEGERU Contemporary Music Ensemble!
The lecture «Stage X’: Experiment, Crossover, Unknown» explores the phenomenon of the experimental scene - a space where the boundaries between academic and popular music dissolve. Here, the experiment is seen not only as a method but also as an artistic gesture that shapes new meanings and practices in the art of sound.
At the centre of discussion is the work of Björk - a groundbreaking artist who bridges pop music with avant-garde, electronic, and classical traditions.
We will trace the origins of musical experimentation, exploring how the perception of musical time has shifted and how the very concept of «idea» in music has evolved.
The lecture maps out the key crossover events of the 20th and 21st centuries, where the unknown becomes a source of new sound, and the stage itself transforms into a realm of constant discovery and hybridisation.
The lecture will be delivered by Anton Somov, a musicologist engaged in both academic research and creative projects. In his teaching, Anton combines classical scholarship with modern approaches, focusing on personal growth and the development of artistic thinking in his students.
