Premiere of the two-act ballet «Cinderella» to music by S. Prokofiev, staged by E. Volkova

On 1 December, the stage of the Abay Kazakh National Opera and Ballet Theatre will host the long-awaited premiere of the State Academic Dance Theatre of Kazakhstan, «Cinderella», a timeless ballet set to the enchanting music of Sergei Prokofiev.

This poetic tale of dreams, kindness, and the power of faith in miracles comes to life through the refined choreography of Ekaterina Volkova, a St. Petersburg choreographer and alumna of the Almaty Choreographic School. The audience will be immersed in a magical atmosphere filled with exquisite costumes, stunning stage design, and the graceful artistry of the company’s dancers.

Synopsis:

The first act unfolds in Cinderella’s modest home. Her spoiled and quarrelsome stepsisters, along with their domineering stepmother, prepare to attend the royal ball. Left alone, Cinderella dreams of the celebration, dancing tenderly with a teapot in her hands. Suddenly, her Fairy Godmother appears and grants her wish, gifting her crystal slippers, a magnificent gown, and a carriage that whisks her away to the palace.

The second act transports the audience to the royal ball, where the Prince meets the mysterious young lady. Their dance becomes a moment of pure enchantment, but as the clock strikes midnight, Cinderella must flee, leaving behind one of her crystal slippers.

The Prince sets out on a journey across distant lands, from the far East to sunny Spain, in search of the girl who stole his heart. When he finally finds her, love triumphs, and the entire kingdom rejoices in celebration.
