Abai - Togzhan. Touring Production by Alatau Theatre in Taldykorgan
The musical drama «Abai - Togzhan» portrays a poignant chapter in the early life of the great Kazakh thinker and poet Abai, as he begins to engage with the challenges of public life. This is the story of a young man destined to become a voice for truth - a solitary warrior on a path of struggle, who, from a young age, is thrust into the heart of disputes and conflicts among the local elite.
Before completing his studies in Semey, Abai is summoned home by his father, Kunanbai, to begin resolving pressing issues within the community. During one such mission, he travels to the village of Suyindik, where he meets Togzhan. A powerful and pure love blossoms between them, becoming the emotional core of the performance.
However, bound by the traditions of the time, Togzhan had already been promised to another. Powerless in the face of custom, the young lovers are forced to sacrifice their love.
«Abai - Togzhan» intertwines Abai’s songs and traditional Kazakh folk music to evoke the emotional depth of this love story, the spirit of the age, and the trials of Abai’s life. The drama captures not only the lyrical beauty of the poet’s youth, but also the heavy burden of duty he bore for his people.
