In Service of the Nation (Ultqa qyzmet). Touring performance in Petropavlovsk

The greatest idea in the civic history of the Kazakh people is the idea of Alash! Striving for national independence, the leaders of the Alash movement waged a political struggle worthy of civilization in their pursuit of freedom from the chains of a powerful autocratic empire. They established the Alash Party, formed the Alash Orda government, and proclaimed the national-territorial autonomy of Alash. However, following the victory of the Bolsheviks in the Civil War, the Soviet government forcibly dissolved the Alash Party and Alash Orda, erasing them from Kazakhstan's socio-political life. Based on the turbulent events of the early 20th century, K. Zhunisov’s “In Service of the Nation” is a documentary-style historical drama staged in honour of the 30th anniversary of Kazakhstan’s independence. The play vividly portrays the heroic struggle and tragic fate of the Alash leaders, led by Alikhan Bokeikhanov, on their path to liberation. Rooted in historical truth, this work inspires a sense of national pride and patriotism, evoking themes of courage and honour.

The tension-filled narrative unfolds through bold directorial choices, reaching emotional heights that captivate the audience. Through the powerful performances of the actors, the civil and political stature of the Alash leaders comes to life. This is the first theatrical production to comprehensively explore the Alash movement, a landmark work that pays tribute to the spirit of the national heroes. Bow your heads in reverence and join us at the theatre for a stirring tribute to the figures who dedicated their lives to the service of the nation!
