Winnie the Pooh
Winnie-the-Pooh is a lovable teddy bear and the central character of two storybooks and two collections of poems by English author A. A. Milne. He first appeared in print in 1926. The character was inspired by a real toy bear belonging to Milne’s son, Christopher Robin. The toy, in turn, was named after a Canadian black bear named Winnipeg («Winnie») who lived in the London Zoo during the 1920s.
When Christopher Robin was four years old, he and his father visited the zoo, where he met the bear. From that day on, the teddy bear he had received for his first birthday was called Winnie. The bear soon became his constant companion - «every child has a favourite toy, and it’s especially important for a child who is growing up as an only child.»
The story cycle adapted by Elena Lokshina tells of the cheerful adventures of Winnie-the-Pooh and his dear friends: Rabbit, Piglet, and the boy Christopher Robin. And of course, there’s Pooh himself - the famous plush bear who loves honey more than anything in the world and delights in composing poetry.
