The Argentine show FREEDOM
Los Potros Malambo
With their new programme
«FREEDOM»
Los Potros Malambo is one of the most renowned dance companies in Argentina, celebrated for their high level of professionalism and striking performances. The troupe was founded by choreographer brothers Javier and Isaac Gardella, who brought together the finest dancers from across the country.
Malambo is a dance of wanderers and free-spirited men. It is a unique form of flamenco performed exclusively by men. For five centuries, Argentinians have used this dance to express their courage and strength. Much like the revered bullfighters in Spain, top malambo dancers enjoy widespread admiration in Argentina.
In 1999, Javier and Isaac Gardella gathered the «best of the best» dancers in Argentina to establish LOS POTROS MALAMBO as a family project - a platform to bring their choreographic visions to life.
They worked tirelessly to find their own path, constantly searching for a unique style. Performing on various stages across the country, they eventually shaped a definitive project and became the most significant Malambo and folk dance company in Argentina.
This remarkable group of dancers has developed a distinctive style in which strength and expressiveness blend seamlessly with technical mastery and choreographic richness, all brought to life in the show productions by the Gardella brothers.
The Gardella brothers achieve the incredible: drawing inspiration from folklore, they extract the very core of flamenco - its DNA - from a vast and complex cultural heritage. A fusion of sounds, rhythms, emotions, energy, expression, and power, accompanied by live musicians, creates a truly breathtaking visual spectacle.
In over 20 years of existence, the company has earned numerous awards at major national folklore and dance festivals.
Los Potros Malambo has toured extensively across Europe - performing in Italy, Germany, France, Chile - and created a sensation in China and the United States. They have also visited Russia and Belarus multiple times.
In 2012, the group was invited to take part in the American reality show «Q’ Viva: The Chosen», which brought together the best dancers, musicians, and acrobats from Latin America to create «the greatest Latin show.»
On the show, Los Potros Malambo worked alongside Jennifer Lopez, and after a series of performances in Los Angeles, they reached the grand finale - becoming the only South American group to do so.
In 2013, they performed in Chile and at numerous national folklore festivals in Argentina.
In 2014, renowned dancer Hernán Piquín invited them to take part in his show SIGNUM, directed by Sean McKeown, director of Cirque du Soleil.
In 2015, they starred in «Bailando Tango» by Mora Godoy, staged at the Alvear Theatre.
In January-February 2016, they performed «Pulsaciones de la Tierra» (Pulses of the Earth) at Teatro Colón in Mar del Plata and at Espacio Clarín, earning two nominations for the prestigious Estrella de Mar award: Best Choreographic Show and Best Dance Performance.
In May 2016, their new show «Pura Sangre» (Pure Blood) premiered at the Borges Cultural Centre in Buenos Aires to glowing reviews from critics and audiences alike, with its run extended through August.
In July 2016, the Ministry of Culture of Argentina invited them to perform at the bicentennial celebration of Argentine independence, dancing for the President and national officials. The performance was broadcast nationwide on television.
The group’s artistry reached such a level that in 2017, they were featured in a promotional campaign celebrating 30 years of Greenpeace Argentina, under the slogan:
«The revolution begins by protecting what is ours!»
In 2018, Los Potros Malambo embarked on their first tour across Russian cities with their programme «Pura Sangre». After the pandemic, they returned in February 2024 with their new programme «Go Malambo» for an extensive tour across Russia and Belarus.
Now, in 2025, the group is presenting their latest show «FREEDOM» in cities across Russia and Kazakhstan.
Rooted in Argentine folkloric tradition, Los Potros Malambo enrich their dance with contemporary movement, Latin American technique, and tango elements. The energy and intensity radiating from their twelve dancers creates a stunning visual spectacle.
The boldest of all Argentine dances, Malambo is performed with bolas - a traditional weapon consisting of cords with stone weights. The dancers strike rhythmic beats and deftly juggle the bolas, showcasing the agility, precision, and daring spirit of the Argentine gauchos.
Blazing rhythms, hypnotic drum beats, and captivating stage design - all form part of the powerful and unforgettable performance that is Los Potros Malambo.
Their mastery of zapateo - rhythmic footwork using boot heels and soles - elevates their art to new heights. The «FREEDOM» show is a passionate fusion of visual and musical delight.
This young collective of professional dancers is sure to leave a lasting mark in the history of world stage art.
