«Pick Up the Phone!»
«Pick Up the Phone!» is an original production by the talented director Sergey Levitsky, inspired by the works of the great master of world literature and drama, Anton Pavlovich Chekhov. Using the novella «Ward No. 6» as its foundation, the director delicately and skillfully weaves a new narrative, blending together Chekhov’s iconic works such as «Uncle Vanya», «The Cherry Orchard», «Three Sisters», «The Seagull», «Gooseberries», «Misery», «Kashtanka», «The Lady with the Dog», «The Little Things», «Late-blooming Flowers» and others.
Despite the grim circumstances, the story of a newly arrived doctor from the capital to a provincial hospital is imbued with subtle humour and unwavering faith that «all earthly evil, all our suffering, will be drowned in mercy, which will fill the world and make life gentle and sweet, like a caress.»
A recurring motif throughout the performance is the characters' anticipation of a phone call.
Will the phone ring? Who will be on the other end? And what will this call bring to their lives?
