The Marriage of Balzaminov (TS)
A century and a half has passed since Alexander Ostrovsky wrote this comedy, yet its storyline feels strikingly modern.
Misha Balzaminov has no interest in hard work or building a career - he dreams of wealth, but by a different route: marrying a rich bride. Beauty? Youth? Not important. What matters is a hefty dowry, a grand house, and a carriage with fine horses.
So naturally, he confesses his love to two different young ladies on the same day - hoping at least one plan will work out.
A humorous tale of ambition, naivety, and the timeless chase for a “comfortable” life.
