«The Pattern of a Creative Dynasty» - Exhibition of the Kasymbekov Family
On July 9, 2025, at 16:00, the State Museum of Arts of the Republic of Kazakhstan named after Abylkhan Kasteyev will host the grand opening of the exhibition «Өнерлі әулет өрнегі» («The Pattern of a Creative Dynasty»), dedicated to the work of the Kasymbekov family.
This unique cultural event celebrates one of Kazakhstan’s most remarkable artistic dynasties - the Kasymbekov family. The exhibition reveals the deep connection between generations, where art has become not only a lifelong pursuit but also the foundation of cultural continuity passed down from elders to the young.
The roots of the Kasymbekov family trace back to the sacred land of Taldy, at the foot of the Zhetysu (Dzhungar) Alatau, where nature and history, national spirit and living creativity are intertwined. This land, rich in legends, petroglyphs, healing springs, and traces of ancient civilizations, has endowed the dynasty with a unique worldview, diligence, resilience, and refined artistic taste.
The exhibition features works of applied art, sculpture, jewellery, and artistic-technical design. The Kasymbekov family’s creations stand out for their exceptional craftsmanship, diverse techniques, and profound respect for the material. Visitors will be able to follow the evolution of artistic language, observe individual creative approaches, and feel the continuity of the family’s artistic legacy reflected in every piece.
A special part of the exhibition is dedicated to the works of sculptor Bolat Kasymbekov, presenting both early and recent pieces. Among them: «Korkyt» (2013), «Abyz Ata» (bronze, 2012), «Boy with an Apple» (gypsum, 2012), «Abai Kunanbayev» (gypsum, 2019), «Dinmukhamed Kunaev» (gypsum, 2020), «Chess Pieces» (bronze, 2023-2024), and a new work titled «Bronze» (2024-2025).
Another section showcases photo materials of monumental works installed in Almaty, Uzynagash, Zharkent, and Mangystau: «Eltindi Batyr» (2006), «Chokan Valikhanov» (2008), «S. Nurmagambetov» (2013), «Bagai Batyr» (granite, 2004), and others.
The exhibition brings together several generations of the dynasty - from the elder, war veteran, artist, and inventor Akhmetkali Kasymbekov, to his children Bolat, Manarbek, Zhanargul, Begayim; grandchildren Aiganym Dulatkyzy, Gulmira Appasova, Nazereke Manarbekkyzy, Ilyas Slyamgazy, Orken Kasymbekov, Ademi Nurtileu; and great-grandchildren Khamza Dulatuly and Alen Izbasarov.
«The Pattern of a Creative Dynasty» is a living chronicle of a family whose story reflects not only artistic achievements but also the enduring strength of family traditions, spiritual values, and love for art. The exhibition is a powerful reminder of the importance of cultural continuity and an inspiration to preserve and develop Kazakhstan’s artistic heritage.
