Gala Ballet of Ballet Stars «My Maya»
Dedicated to Maya Plisetskaya's 100th anniversary.
On February 25, the stage of the Abay Opera and Ballet Theatre will host an evening of timeless masterpieces that embody the innovative spirit, extraordinary artistry, and unmistakable stage temperament of Maya Plisetskaya.
This gala brings together leading soloists from the world’s foremost ballet companies - the Bolshoi Theatre, the Mariinsky Theatre, and other renowned stages - in a rare and distinguished constellation of performers. Their appearances form a tribute to a woman who transformed the language of ballet, enriching it with intellectual depth, dramatic intensity, and unprecedented plastic freedom.
The program traces the pinnacle roles and works that shaped Plisetskaya’s artistic destiny: from Rodion Shchedrin’s passionate Carmen Suite, written especially for her, to Camille Saint-Saëns’ fragile and symbolic miniature The Swan, in which her interpretation established a new ballet canon.
Her virtuosity, powerful individuality, and fearless artistic vision will be revealed through variations from Kitri, Raymonda, Carmen, Odette, and Odile. The evening will also feature new choreographic works dedicated to Maya Plisetskaya - created by young choreographers specifically for this gala.
