On the occasion of International Music Day, the soloists and Chamber Orchestra of the Astana Opera House continue a cherished tradition, offering a special gift to true connoisseurs of classical music. This time, the audience is invited on a unique journey through the seasons across different cities, countries and eras: from Venice to Buenos Aires to Moscow — spanning from 18th-century Italian Baroque to 20th-century tango nuevo and the music of today.
The programme features seasonal cycles by Antonio Vivaldi, Astor Piazzolla and Efrem Podgaits.
Composed in 1723, The Four Seasons by Vivaldi remains one of the finest examples of Baroque music and a priceless treasure of world culture. The four concertos — “Spring”, “Summer”, “Autumn”, “Winter” — are still the most frequently performed among the 550 works by the great Venetian master.
Astor Piazzolla, the legendary figure of Argentine tango, elevated the genre to the level of high art and modern classical music, while preserving its signature intensity. A vivid example is his cycle The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires — four tango pieces written at different times but performed as a single suite.
The cycle The Four Seasons in Moscow by contemporary Russian composer Efrem Podgaits is based on well-known melodies by I. Dunayevsky, V. Solovyov-Sedoi and E. Kolmanovsky, featured in popular films of the past century.
