From July 6, the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan presents the exhibition "Cities and Nature of Kazakhstan in Postcards (early 20th century)," dedicated to the Capital City Day.

The exposition offers a unique perspective on the history and culture of the Kazakhs through the lens of early 20th-century postcards. Over 400 authentic postcards from the Museum's collection are on display, reflecting the appearance of cities, and the daily and cultural life of the Kazakh people during this period.

The exhibition is divided into three thematic sections:

  1. "Cities of Kazakhstan in Postcards" — viewers will see old images of Akmola, Verny, Shymkent, Semipalatinsk, Turkestan, and other cities. The postcards allow tracing the architectural features, social dynamics, and daily life of urban residents before the February Revolution. The earliest examples date back to 1902.

  2. "Culture of Kazakhs in Border Regions" — this section is dedicated to postcards from Altai Krai, Astrakhan, Omsk, Orenburg, Samara, Tashkent, and Troitsk. The culture of Kazakhs in the border regions represents an important layer of historical and ethnographic heritage, formed at the intersection of various state, ethnic, and cultural influences. Despite being administratively part of other states, these postcards capture the traditional customs and way of life of the Kazakhs.

  3. "Life and Economy of Kazakhs in Postcards" — this section features scenes from everyday life: reading books, needlework, treating with kumis, hunting, views of the steppes, yurts, and ethnic portraits. The postcards serve not only as a means of visual communication but also as a valuable ethnographic source.

The exhibition will run throughout 2025. Visitors will be able to see 413 museum exhibits — true witnesses of a historical era that have preserved the spirit and atmosphere of the past.
