Idiot
The characters of the play inhabit the world of the 19th century, yet in human relationships and in the very nature of our world, little has truly changed.
Technology grants us unimaginable opportunities, and yet opening our hearts, trusting others, and following our feelings remain just as difficult. When a person appears who is gifted with precisely these qualities, a pure soul, they are bound to clash with a «tainted» world. But can such a person cleanse this world?
Or should one withdraw from all conflicts altogether? Observe everything rationally, pragmatically? That way, the coveted inner comfort is seemingly secured… Yet such «peace» is akin to the mere pursuit of convenience, a familiar indifference that, in the end, leads to even greater suffering. Awkward, «wrong» situations carry a powerful emotional charge.
And we fear strong emotions; we fear living intensely. The tragic and the comic intertwine, making each scene sharper, more vivid. It becomes clear that this classic story from the «school reading list» is not only strikingly relevant today, it resonates with a prophetic voice.
