The Black Overcoat
G. Khugaev’s «The Black Overcoat» is a profound and timeless reflection on the painful truths of society. In this allegorical play, the fickleness of human values and the sting of betrayal are portrayed through the eyes of the animal world. The eternal struggle between good and evil, honesty and deceit, is revealed from the perspective of a dog, searching not only for warmth but for meaning and belonging in a cold, shifting world.
«Since I was named human, how can I remain ignorant?» This play boldly exposes the thin line between humanity and ignorance, just a hair’s breadth apart. And within that fragile space lies a depth of philosophy, raw and unsettling. The fate of a single dog, the wavering nature of one man, together mirror the soul of all humankind. Entrusted with consciousness, humankind often forgets just how easily it can abandon compassion.
We don’t think… We stop thinking.
