We all make countless mistakes in life. We forget or simply refuse to see how fleeting, deceptive, and fragile life truly is. We live as though we are immortal. And that, perhaps, is the most dangerous illusion of all. Yet through faith, one can rediscover a sense of meaning, and the way a person sees the world can change entirely. This is the central idea behind the play. The main character, Oscar, begins his journey as someone who has no belief in God. He is gravely ill, diagnosed with cancer, and it seems to him that the entire world has turned against him. But in time, he realises how wrong he was… He begins to understand… To feel… The one who helps him see the light is the Pink Lady, Grandma Rose. To comfort Oscar, she invents marvelous tales and extraordinary stories. Their dialogue is sometimes full of quiet sorrow, sometimes deep reflection, and sometimes warm laughter.

Oscar and the Pink Lady is one of the most celebrated works by French writer Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt. It touches upon some of the most pressing issues of modern society, the loss of compassion, kindness, and love in the human heart. In our time, when these qualities are so rare, this play feels especially poignant and meaningful.
