SATS: A Chronicle of One Rehearsal
A performance-reconstruction of a single rehearsal by the legendary director Natalia Ilyinichna Sats. On 7 November 1945, in Alma-Ata, she was rehearsing Evgeny Schwartz’s fairytale «Little Red Riding Hood». There is only one hour left before the grand opening of the first theatre for children and youth in Kazakhstan.
The actors are putting on their costumes, warming up their voices, making last-minute preparations - and director Sats rushes to the Green Bazaar to buy a prop for the aspiring young actor Yura Pomerantsev…
The entire life of Sats reads like a myth - one that could rival the tales of the Greek gods. Her story is a vivid collage woven from extraordinary events, fateful encounters, and intertwined destinies - tragic, heroic, and monumental.
But the most defining moment in the life of the great Sats was the creation of the theatre for children and youth in Kazakhstan.
This performance is a tribute to the cultural code of our city, an advocacy for the space of the theatre itself, which continues to live and breathe today.
At its heart lies a deep commitment to preserving memory - the memory of Sats and her boundless legacy.
