Dee Kurzman with the programme «Fire, Water, and the Pipes of the Obvodny Canal»
Dee Kurzman is a wandering minstrel from Saint Petersburg. His inspiration comes from Celtic folk and Renaissance music, from romances and songs of Soviet cinema, from the rock of the sixties, and from his own travels. Dee is the songwriter and lead singer of the Saint Petersburg folk-rock band The Dartz. Even if you don’t know the band, you’ve probably heard the song about the fire on the Cutty Sark, the haunting «Fires of Samhain», the powerful chorus of «When the Sea Calls You», or the chilling ballads «Cherepovets» and «Pain and Voronezh». These are all songs by Dee Kurzman.
From September 2024 to April 2025, Dee played thirty concerts across Germany, Finland, Russia, Serbia, Greece, Portugal, Georgia, Armenia, Israel, and other countries. His programme included songs from past years, stories drawn from music and childhood, as well as brand-new works such as «Zhytomyr» and «Another Life» - songs that powerfully convey the author’s anti-war stance. Released in July 2024, «Zhytomyr» was highly praised by both audiences and critics. It is a dedication to all those who were forced to leave their homes during war.
This time, audiences will experience an entirely new programme - «Fire, Water, and the Pipes of the Obvodny Canal». It is dedicated to the musician’s native city, Saint Petersburg: its peculiarities, its pipes, its shabby walls, its rains, its mad love, and its soaked sneakers. And, of course, alongside brand-new songs, the upcoming concerts will feature beloved classics from The Dartz and Dee’s solo work - Irish, Breton, and dance tunes.
