The Red Dream

The Baqionyr Film Festival will present a story that strikes to the very core. A film about memory, fanaticism, and the price of illusions that can turn into tragedy.

Aziz brings his elderly father home from a psychiatric hospital, hoping he will finally take care of him. The father - a former Soviet soldier who fought in Afghanistan - is consumed by the dream of reviving the USSR. He transforms the house into a museum of the Soviet era, filling it with flags, busts, and slogans of the past. The family cannot endure this suffocating atmosphere, but Aziz stays by his father’s side, sinking ever deeper into his world. Yet the father’s fanatical devotion to a romanticised past becomes, for Aziz, a personal tragedy.
