Alphonse Marquis de Sade was a real historical figure of the 18th century, unconventional, striking, and disarmingly honest in his erotic and romantic desires. A man whose charisma and aura were magnetic, whose influence on women defied explanation. Yet our performance is not about him, but about the women whose lives became entwined with his. How does one live an entire lifetime with a single thought revolving around him, no matter how much he complicates, breaks, hurts, or destroys a woman’s dreams and soul? Love and passion, desire and sexuality, where does the norm end and perversion begin? Each person draws that line for themselves. What forms of pleasure does one need to feel happy and to leave a lasting mark on human history to be remembered in the 21st century, to inspire plays, films, books, and theatrical adaptations? The LTE Theatre, too, refuses to stay silent.
