Meet the New Generation of Playwrights!

On May 18, 2025, the Republican Academic German Drama Theatre in Almaty will host a unique event - staged readings of plays by the graduates of the Olga Markova Open Literary School’s Dramaturgy Workshop.

This year’s graduates have chosen to address not only adult audiences but also children.

Expect a rich variety of genres and powerful stories - every play is bound to leave a lasting impression.

For the little ones – heartfelt and meaningful «Tales for Kristina» by Natalia Makhno, where a grandmother invents magical stories for her granddaughter.

In «Meet Captain!», a multi-episode animated script by Vladimir Gorelkin, a husky dog embarks on exciting adventures.

Artem Urazimbetov’s animated story «The Secret Life of an Architectural Bureau» features a rivalry between an ordinary pencil and a high-tech competitor.

For the adult audience:

«Polyphemus» by Saule Zhakutova - a poignant drama of unexpected rescue and healing.

«Top-Adele» by Anna Shishkina - a melodrama about a 65-year-old woman who becomes a mature model.

«Kizomba» by Varvara Golovkina - a psychological melodrama about a reunion of former lovers.

«The Man with the Baton, or Grandpa Speaks» by Alexander Ivankov - a postdramatic experiment blurring the line between theatre and reality.
