«TWO WOMEN IN PARIS»
On February 14-15, Astana will host the premiere of the international co-production «Two Women in Paris», a joint project of South Korea, Russia, and Kazakhstan.
The project’s defining feature is a shared stage: actors from theatres of all three countries performing together in one production.
The story unfolds in Paris in the 1940s. In the Luxembourg Garden, two women meet, Na Hye-seok, the first professional Korean woman artist and an independence activist, and Ranevskaya, a fictional character from Anton Chekhov’s play «The Cherry Orchard». Through their dialogue, themes of the past, forgotten names, suffering, and hope come to the surface. By bringing a real historical figure into conversation with a literary heroine, the performance reflects on the meaning of independence through the fate of a single person.
A special screening of the production is presented with the support of the Korean Cultural Center of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea.
