On 27 April, the Main Hall of the Astana Opera House will host the performance of the Requiem by State Prize laureate of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Balnur Kydyrbek.
Balnur Kydyrbek is the author of more than 500 musical works distinguished by their unique, colourful, yet accessible style. The composer’s work spans various genres, including the opera-ballet Kalkaman – Mamyr, the musical Zhanuran, works for children such as the ballet Karlygashtyn Kuirygy Nege Aiyr (Why Does the Swallow Have a Forked Tail?), a trumpet concerto, symphonic poems, cantatas, overtures, orchestral suites, as well as music for film, theatre, pop compositions, and arrangements of Kazakh folk songs, among many others.
Balnur Kydyrbek’s Requiem is the first composition in this genre in the history of Kazakh musical art and was awarded the State Prize of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Literature and Art in 2014.
The Requiem reflects themes of unity, peace, spiritual harmony, and tolerance. Another important idea in the work is the continuity of generations and the connection between eras, highlighting the noble ideals of serving one’s homeland and the enduring aspiration for national independence passed down through the centuries.
This concert offers an extraordinary opportunity for audiences to appreciate the artistry of a contemporary composer, reflecting on the legacy of past generations and the future of the country.
