«The Inspector»... Premiere!
«Why are you laughing? You’re laughing at yourselves!» Laughter is the most just mirror, involuntarily revealing our own flaws. Sometimes we laugh not at what we see, but at our own shadow reflected in it.
When news spreads that an inspector is secretly arriving in the city, the municipal officials fall into a state of confusion. Fear, fuss, and the desire to conceal their own misdeeds drive them to mistake a random guest for the real inspector. Oblivious to the misunderstanding, Khlestakov skillfully takes advantage of the situation, exposing the true nature of false authority and servile behavior. This play, full of sharp irony, exposes bribery, hypocrisy, and foolishness that corrode society from within. It reminds us that times may change, but human weaknesses remain the same.
