Sanya, Vanya and Rimas Alongside Them
This heartfelt play is based on true events from the life of author Vladimir Gurkin and is dedicated to his grandparents.
Summer, 1941. War has just been declared, but people still do not grasp the horrors and hardships that lie ahead. In the village of Romakhino, in the Perm region, three sisters - Anna, Sofia, and Alexandra - live with their families. Despite the political repression and harsh times, they love, find joy in simple things, and dream of happiness like everyone else.
But a malicious denunciation against their husbands and the looming war divide their lives into «before» and «after»…
The war took much from these people - comfort, security, even family - but it could not take away their deepest yearning: to love and to be loved.
This is a play about war, without showing the war itself. It’s a story about love, hope, warmth, and the unbreakable human spirit - a testament to the strength to believe in something better, even in the darkest of times.
