About the Performance:

He is a beekeeper. She is a scientist. What connects them? Only love.

The characters of «Constellations» seem to meet for the first time - and immediately begin negotiating their relationship. In one version, they break up because of mutual infidelity. In another, they accidentally reunite. Here comes a proposal. And here - a tragic moment, when one partner receives life-altering news. Just over an hour passes on stage. Yet the audience experiences an entire shared lifetime with the characters - from their first encounter to their final farewell.

Can the course of events be changed? Which words should have been spoken? Which door should have been opened?

The theory of the multiverse, with its infinite variations of reality, becomes a way to explore human relationships - our chances at life, love, and being together.

The play by contemporary British playwright Nick Payne invites the audience into a quantum world. The production by Boris Pavlovich is structured as an open system - a space for psychological experimentation, where spectators observe events from multiple perspectives.

«From different perspectives» is not a metaphor. It is a literal description of the stage space designed by Anton Bolkunov, constructed according to the principles of quantum reality.

About the Director:

Boris Pavlovich is a Russian theatre director, playwright, actor, and educator. From 2013 to 2016, he headed the Department of Social and Educational Programs at the Tovstonogov Bolshoi Drama Theatre. He is the creator and lead instructor of the BDT Pedagogical Laboratory, the head of the joint BDT and Anton’s Right Here Center project «Meeting», and the artistic director of the «Conversations» project at the Alma Mater Foundation.

The play was written by contemporary British playwright Nick Payne, whose works have been staged on the West End and Broadway, as well as adapted for film. «Constellations» received the prestigious Evening Standard Theatre Award and enjoyed critical and audience success in London and New York. Notable actors who have portrayed the leading roles include Jake Gyllenhaal and Ruth Wilson.
