Service to the nation
The greatest idea in the civic history of the Kazakh people is the Alash Ideal, the vision of National Independence! Guided by this purpose, the Alash leaders carried out monumental deeds, leading a noble political struggle to break free from the chains of a mighty autocratic empire and to claim a rightful place within civilization. They founded the Alash Party, formed the Alash-Orda Government, and proclaimed the National Territorial Autonomy of Alash. Yet, after the victory in the civil war, the Soviet regime forcibly dissolved the Alash Party and Alash-Orda, erasing their presence from Kazakhstan’s political and social life.
Kazakh writer K. Zhunisov’s documentary drama «Serving the Nation», staged in honour of the 30th anniversary of Independence, reflects on this dramatic and defining chapter of the early twentieth century. Based on historical events, the play depicts the struggle and tragic fate of the leaders, led by Ä. Bökeikhan, who devoted their lives to the fight for freedom. The production embodies courage, patriotism, and the enduring national spirit, awakening pride in one’s homeland. Through powerful direction and emotional storytelling, the tension builds to a striking climax, reminding us of the eternal value of serving one’s nation.
