Landowner Lyubov Ranevskaya speaks with such tenderness about the old family home where she and her brother were born and raised, about the vast cherry orchard surrounding the estate. Yet she has squandered all her money in Paris, and now the orchard is to be auctioned off to cover her debts. A solution is suggested by Lopakhin: to divide the orchard and land into summer cottages and lease them out. It seems all that remains is to roll up one’s sleeves and get to work…
