The harsh winter of 1986. A poet with the fiery heart of a patriot stands before those who condemn the Kazakh youth who took to the square to declare their right to freedom and Kazakhstan’s independence.

From the high tribune the akyn delivers a passionate speech addressed to everyone present, defending the national interests and expressing the aspirations of the Kazakh people.

The play opens with Zhuban Moldagaliyev’s historic address to Kolbin - the first time he openly spoke about many of the Kazakh nation’s problems.

Throughout the performance, his strong national spirit, which sets Zhuban apart from others, is interwoven with episodes from his childhood and adult life.
