Following yet another outburst of unruly fan behaviour, the England national team is disqualified from the European Championship. Taking their place is an unexpected contender - the Russian national team, previously eliminated and officially disbanded. The Russian Football Federation has just two weeks to assemble a squad. To tackle this near-impossible task, they turn to the most controversial figure in Russian football - Coach Sorokin.
Sorokin calls upon players who have, for various reasons, found themselves sidelined and forgotten: two are under investigation for a brawl, one is caught in the middle of a high-profile divorce, and another has been benched for his difficult character. Also returning is the nation’s former star, Ivanov - but his comeback is deeply personal. His daughter, Dasha, is seriously ill, and her condition improves when the national team wins… and worsens when they lose. Though each player starts with their own motives, over time they come together - united by a common cause: to fight not just for victory, but for the life of little Dasha.
