Mustafa Shoqay
A man who devoted his life to the cause of national freedom, who dreamed not only of the independence of the Kazakh people but also of the unity and solidarity of all Turkic nations, the author of the Turkestan idea and a prominent figure of the Alash movement, Mustafa Shoqay, remained buried under the ashes of history for far too long.
This play seeks to uncover the true face of Syr’s native son, M. Shoqay, stripping away the clichés and rigid stereotypes that have long overshadowed his image. It aims to reveal him as a visionary who cherished his nation’s heritage and worked tirelessly for its future. By doing so, the performance honours his immense contribution and brings to light his thoughts and ideals, which continue to resonate with the present day. The production also portrays the towering figures who stood alongside Mustafa, M. Dulatov, A. Baitursynov, and Ä. Bökeykhanov, as well as the fierce struggle between them and the dark forces of their oppressive time.
