The Great Steppe. History. Engraving
From May 18 to August 18, 2025, the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan is hosting the exhibition «The Great Steppe. History. Engraving.»
The exhibition features 94 19th-century engravings from the collection of the BonArt auction house (Madrid, Kyiv, Almaty), which is a partner of the project. The works were created by engraver-artists from Russia, Germany, Italy, and France.
The display impresses with its diversity of genres and subjects: it includes domestic portraits, unique historical documents in the form of travel sketches from ethnographic expeditions, battle scenes, as well as allegorical compositions depicting the daily life of Kazakhs who lived more than 250 years ago.
The aim of the exhibition is to highlight the uniqueness of Kazakhstan’s historical and cultural heritage through the art of engraving, created by 19th-century foreign graphic artists.
