Ataу-kere
Why are we like this…? It is the question that humankind asks itself and others countless times a day, a question with no clear answer. In a society where people have not yet learned to live with compassion and kinship, the moral nature of humanity troubles the heart of Tagan, a man weary of an empty, meaningless life. He dreams that if only people knew even five percent of what he understands, the world and our lives would be completely different.
In Oralkhan Bokeev’s novella Ataу-kere, through the actions of characters immersed in the untouched beauty of nature, we gain a glimpse into their inner worlds and come to know their true selves.
At one point, Tagan seems to find an answer to the question that has long tormented him - «Why are we like this?» Returning to the roots of humanity, he finds himself embraced by Mother Nature.
The play Ataу-kere invites reflection on the dangers posed by those who have ears yet hear nothing, and eyes yet see nothing.
Dear spectator, as the saying goes, «He who seeks shall find». Perhaps you too will discover your own answer to the question, Why are we like this?
