Children's ballet «The Snow Queen» in Almaty

Act I.

Scene 1. A snowy plain against a background of icy mountains - this is the realm of the Snow Queen. Snowflakes are swirling, the wind is getting stronger, the snow queen appears, with her two faithful trolls. The queen conjures up a magic mirror. Through this mirror the snow queen observes the world of people. Suddenly a scarlet rose appears in the mirror. The snow queen is enraged. She hates all living things, especially flowers. The snow queen in anger breaks the magic mirror and the shards fly all over the earth.

Scene 2. Street. Winter morning. Children are playing merry games, among them Kai and Gerda, inseparable friends. Kai gives Gerda a scarlet live rose as a sign of devoted friendship. Gerda is very happy about this gift, she loves fresh flowers, especially roses. The trolls are watching. They spy on the snow queen's assignment, looking for people who like flowers, and report everything to the snow queen. A strong wind picks up and there is a commotion. Kai and Gerda lose sight of each other. Kai gets a shard of a magic mirror in his eye and is in pain. The snow queen appears, she likes Kai and decides to take him with her. The trolls, on the snow queen's orders, grab Kai and take him with them to the snow queen's kingdom. Gerda searches for Kai. The friends who saw Kai kidnapped show Gerda the way. Gerda decides to get Kai back and rushes to his aid.

Scene 3. Gerda runs on the footsteps of the snow queen in search of her beloved friend Kai. When Gerda is exhausted, she realizes that she is lost. Gerda is very much frightened. Suddenly a sweet old woman appears. She invites Gerda into her house to rest from the road.

Scene 4. A garden of flowers. The old woman has a beautiful garden with many beautiful flowers. These flowers can talk and dance. Gerda dances with the flowers and falls asleep, forgetting about Kai. In her dream Gerda sees Kai. They are playing like before and he gives her a scarlet rose. Gerda wakes up. She remembers that she has to hurry. Gerda runs away from the beautiful garden to look for Kai.

Act II.

Scene 5. The Snow Queen's trolls prevent Gerda from finding Kai and they succeed. Gerda has lost her way again, and in despair she weeps bitterly. Suddenly a black raven appears. He is very elegant and polite because he serves in the palace. Having heard Gerda's story, the raven decides to take her to the palace and introduce Gerda to the prince, princess and all the courtiers.

Scene 6. A ball in the palace. The courtiers meet the Prince and the Princess. A solemn dance begins. At the end of the dance the Prince gives the Princess a golden rose. At that moment Gerda runs out and runs to the Prince. Gerda thinks it is Kai, but she is mistaken. Gerda cries again. The Prince and the Princess calm her down, give her presents, give her servants and send her off to find Kai.

Scene 7. Night. The forest. Outlaws are preparing a new robbery plan. The leader of the small bandits is joking about his tame reindeer, scaring it with a knife. All the bandits are amused by this. Suddenly the bandits hear someone approaching. What luck! They decide to ambush them. They attack Gerda and take her prisoner. All the servants and the ravens run away. Gerda is in the hands of the bandits. The bandits take away the things Gerda was given at the palace. The little bandit also takes away the rose given to Gerda by Kai, but throws it away. Flowers do not interest the brigands. Gerda carefully picks up the rose and holds it to her breast. The little bandit is surprised that this rose is so dear to Gerda, she asks to tell what brought her here at night in the dark forest. Hearing Gerda's sad story, the bandits sympathize with her. The little bandit decides to help poor Gerda. She returns all her things to her and gives her her reindeer. The reindeer must take Gerda to the kingdom of the snow queen, where her beloved friend Kai is languishing! Gerda thanks the bandits heartily and sets off on her journey.

Scene 8. Blizzard. The kingdom of the snow queen. Gerda and the reindeer are struggling to make their way. The reindeer falls down without strength and cannot go any further. Gerda leaves the reindeer her warm clothes and goes on alone to look for Kai.

Scene 9. The palace of the snow queen. Ice Hall. Snowflakes and trolls dance for the snow queen. The Snow Queen tells the trolls to bring Kai. Kai has changed completely. He no longer laughs or plays. He is only interested in watching the snowflakes dance. Kai dances with the Snow Queen, obeying her in everything. The snow queen has decided to make Kai the prince of the snow kingdom. To do this, she wants to put a magic crown on his head so that his heart will turn into a piece of ice. Suddenly Gerda enters, runs to Kai and embraces him. Kai coldly pulls Gerda away. He is not at all happy about this long-awaited meeting, he does not recognize Gerda. Then Gerda takes out the rose that Kai gave her. The Snow Queen laughs. She offers Kai a crown. To become the prince of the snow kingdom. Kai holds the crown and the rose in his hands, he is faced with a choice. Kai can become the prince of the whole snow kingdom or he can leave with Gerda. Suddenly Kai is pricked by the thorn of the rose and drops it. Kai is hurt. The Queen laughs, she is sure of her victory. Then Gerda takes Kai's hand and kisses it. A miracle happens! Kai remembers Gerda and hugs her tightly. The snow queen's charms are powerless against sincere friendship and love! The snow kingdom, the snow queen and her entourage disappear.

Scene 10. Kai Gerda is coming home! On the way back they are met by their friends. Everyone is truly happy for Kai and Gerda! Live and be happy dear and faithful friends!
