Astana Ballet opens its new season with a story about beauty woven from secrets. The first premiere of the season is the ballet Two Carpets. In this two-act ballet, created in a neoclassical style, historical truth and artistic imagination intertwine. The story is as incredible as it is believable. It happened - or could have happened - in our world, woven like a carpet from threads that connect the destinies of people, countries, and eras.

Inspired by the legend of the Shirvan Carpet, the ballet tells a tale of love, loss, and rediscovered happiness. The action unfolds against the backdrop of historical events from the late 19th to early 20th centuries in Baku, Saint Petersburg, and Vienna, immersing the audience in the atmosphere of a time of change. Two Carpets is the story of the friendship between a girl, Leyla, and a boy, Samir, from Baku, which grows into a singular love, encompassing separation, loss, temptation, and fidelity. Fate takes Samir, who lost his memory after the war, to Vienna. By his side is the loving woman, Margo. Yet a fortunate twist and the carpet woven in his homeland help him remember his beloved and return to her.
