Erlik Museum
The Erlik Museum, a branch of the «Shymkent City Museum Association» State Communal Government Enterprise (SKGE), features five exhibition halls.
The First Exhibition - The Hall of the Great Patriotic War
Dedicated to the years 1941-1945, this hall tells the story of the valiant heroes who defended their homeland from enemy forces. The museum collection includes valuable relics belonging to veterans of the Great Patriotic War - documents, medals and orders, photographs, and personal belongings that preserve the memory of their courage.
The Second Exhibition - The Afghan War Hall
This exhibit highlights the war in Afghanistan from 1979 to 1989. It presents documentary materials and personal effects of local soldiers and officers who fought, perished, or survived the conflict. Uniforms, military gear, and poignant stories offer a compelling look into one of the most intense chapters of modern history.
The Third Exhibition - The Home Front Workers Hall
This hall honours the tireless labourers who, despite the horrors of war, made immense sacrifices to bring victory closer. Their contribution was invaluable. Here, you will find wartime photographs, tools, and personal items that once belonged to these unsung heroes of the home front.
The Fourth Exhibition - Hall of the December Events, Semipalatinsk, and Karabakh Veterans
This space is dedicated to veterans of various critical historic events—those who took part in the December 1986 demonstrations, the Semipalatinsk anti-nuclear movement, and the Karabakh conflict. The display includes their medals, commendations, certificates, photographs, and official documents.
The Fifth Exhibition - The Hall of Independent Kazakhstan
This hall portrays the key milestones of Kazakhstan’s path to independence and the building of its new national identity. Exhibits from the museum’s collection offer insight into recent historical events, made even more engaging through guided tours and thematic lectures.
