Former front-line soldier and now an ordinary railway worker, Edige, accompanies his close friend Kazangap on his final journey. According to his late friend’s last wish, Kazangap’s remains must be laid to rest in the ancient cemetery known as «Ana Beit». Bound by his word of honour, Edige sets out to fulfil this promise, yet faces countless obstacles along the way. As he travels, Edige witnesses a generation that has lost its faith, its language, and its compassion, people whom he likens to mankurts, those stripped of memory and identity. Once, powerful masters turned Jolaman into a mankurt; but who, Edige wonders, are the mankurts created by today’s society?..
