M. Auezov Theatre in the play «Zhan Äke» at the Kazakh State Academic Theatre for Children and Youth named after G. Musirepov
The production is multifaceted: it is staged from a play written for the Kazakh stage, inspired by «The Father» by the renowned French writer and dramatist Florian Zeller. The central figure is an Aksakal (an elderly man). He deeply misses his beloved wife Appak, who has passed away. He is also pained by the fact that his younger daughter married a foreigner. The only one who truly cares for the frail father, who is losing his memory, is his elder daughter Aizhan. Yet, strangely, her efforts seem to lead nowhere: she does not really hear her father, she longs to arrange her own personal life, and the man in her life has his own unfinished business.
The Aksakal’s memory falters, but his mind remains clear and his spirit unbroken. That is why he worries about his daughters’ fates, about the younger generation, and about the nation’s future. It becomes clear the problem is not only forgetfulness - it is a lack of love, kindness, and compassion.
In this psychologically intricate play, it is not easy to separate reality from the hero’s imagination - and there is no shortage of intrigue. Through dialogues unfolding in different circumstances, deep clashes of worldview are sharply revealed.
