From March 19 to June 1, 2025, the Abylkhan Kasteyev State Museum of Arts of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Almaty presents a unique retrospective exhibition of the prominent artist Ural Tansykbayev.
This exhibition is the first in 40 years to comprehensively showcase all key stages of the artist’s creative path - from his early works of the late 1920s and early 1930s to the large-scale mature canvases of the «Thaw» era.
Visitors will have the opportunity to view approximately 78 paintings and graphic works, brought from the State Museum of Arts in Tashkent, the Ural Tansykbayev House-Museum in Tashkent, the State Museum of Arts of the Republic of Karakalpakstan in Nukus, and the Abylkhan Kasteyev State Museum of Arts of Kazakhstan.
The exhibition offers an in-depth narrative of the artist’s life, his dramatic creative journey, and the complex evolution of his style - from early modernist experiments to monumental landscapes imbued with deep symbolism and philosophical undertones.
Particular attention is devoted to Tansykbayev’s early works, which bear the influence of Russian avant-garde and French modernists. Highlights include renowned paintings such as "Crimson Autumn" (1931), "Self-Portrait" (1935), as well as wartime pieces and iconic landscapes from the "Thaw" period.
The exhibition will be located on the second floor of the Abylkhan Kasteyev State Museum of Arts and promises to be not only a significant cultural event, but also a new milestone in the exploration of the legacy of this great artist.
