Museum of Fine Arts of the Department of Culture
The Museum of Fine Arts of the Department of Culture of the South Kazakhstan Region is a prominent cultural institution in the city of Shymkent. It is located in the central part of the city, within Abay Park. The museum was officially opened on 20 February 2015. Covering a total area of approximately 2,500 square metres, it houses three spacious and bright exhibition halls, fully equipped for the storage and display of works of art.
The museum’s collection includes around 300 works, such as paintings, graphic art, hand-woven tapestries, sculptures, and items of decorative and applied art. The core of the collection consists of works by Kazakhstani artists, alongside pieces by international masters. The exhibition themes are diverse: some displays are dedicated to the 550th anniversary of the Kazakh Khanate, the 20th anniversary of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan, and others showcase the cultural heritage of traditional folk art.
The museum regularly hosts temporary exhibitions, master classes, artist meet-and-greets, lectures, and educational programmes. Special attention is given to supporting young talents - schoolchildren, students, and emerging artists. Thanks to its continuous engagement with visitors, the museum serves as an open platform for cultural dialogue between generations and nations.
Actively involved in the cultural life of the city, the museum participates in major urban events and exhibition projects. With its convenient location, professional organisation, and rich collection, it stands as one of the key cultural landmarks of South Kazakhstan and is a must-visit for anyone interested in art and regional history.
