The rock opera Yunona and Avos in Karaganda

«Yunona and Avos» is the most famous rock opera on the Russian stage. The authors are the outstanding Russian composer Alexey Rybnikov and the poet Andrei Voznesensky. The Moscow State Creative Workshop under the direction of Alexey Rybnikov, People's Artist of the Russian Federation, winner of the State Prize of the Russian Federation, winner of the Prize of the President of the Russian Federation, composer, staged the rock opera «Yunona and Avos» in the author's version.

The performance is performed by brilliant Moscow artists of the new wave stars. The role of Count Nikolai Rezanov is played by brothers Nikita and Alexander Pozdnyakov (participants in the «The Voice» project) and theatre and cinema actor Nikolai Drozdovsky. The role of Conchita is played by Svetlana Bakayeva, Anna Burkina, Natalia Krestyanskikh and Diana Orlovskaya. The production features leading actors of the Alexey Rybnikov Theatre Ekaterina Kulchitskaya, Nikolai Lyutov, and Yves Nabiev (winner of the «Success» project).

The rock opera «Yunona and Avos» premiered in 1981 on the stage of the Lenin Komsomol Theatre in Moscow, and for over 40 years it has been going on with unchanged success and a full house. In 1983, the famous French couturier Pierre Cardin presented «Yunona and Avos» to the French public at the Espace Cardin Theatre, followed by a triumphant tour around the world: the USA, Germany and Holland. The opera was subsequently staged in Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Germany and South Korea.

In the summer of 2009 in France, at the Pierre Cardin International Festival, the Alexey Rybnikov Theatre presented a new production of the rock opera «Yunona and Avos», which was a grand success. Alexey Rybnikov's full author's version is a serious innovation in the genre of world musical theatre and is designed to bring back the original idea of the authors. The new version of the opera combines the traditions of Russian spiritual music, folk folklore, and genres of mass «urban» music, with the composer's imaginative, ideological and aesthetic priorities.

The rock opera «Yunona and Avos» staged by the Alexey Rybnikov Theatre has been seen by audiences in such countries as the USA, Canada, Germany, France, Switzerland, Israel, Finland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, the CIS countries Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan. More than 50 performances a year are given by the theatre throughout Russia, from Kaliningrad to Vladivostok, from Arkhangelsk to Vladikavkaz.
