My Shynar, My Beautiful One
The play unfolds in Kyrgyzstan and begins with a chance encounter between Asel, a simple village girl, and Ilyas, a car driver, on a roadside. Despite numerous obstacles, the two fall in love, marry, and have a child. Yet, as the saying goes, «You never cherish what you have until it’s gone». Distracted by the hardships at work and weighed down by worries, Ilyas makes a tragic mistake. For him, the woman who once gave up her family and an arranged marriage for his sake, the woman who bore him a son and embodied his deepest love, becomes an unattainable dream, his «red-scarved Shynar». The performance reminds us of the importance of treasuring happiness while it’s still with us.
