The Snow Maiden
The cheerful musical fairy tale «The Snow Maiden» unfolds within a grand Magic Book that comes to life right on stage.
The Book opens and the story begins! But this is no ordinary old tale. Things have changed since long ago: the fairy-tale characters have stopped believing in magic. Dreaming of a better life, they fled their enchanted forest.
Now, Father Frost, the Wood Goblin and Baba Yaga appear before us in completely new and unexpected roles. Baba Yaga has decided to live «like a human» with a family. Father Frost has grown younger and turned into a vain, cold-hearted sorcerer named Moroz. In the empty, frozen forest, only the Water Spirit and the Wood Goblin remain, though rather than living, they merely exist. They long for Baba Yaga to return to her true self and for Moroz to become kind again, to melt the forest and bring warmth back to the world. One day they make a pact: to find Moroz a bride so that he might «thaw» through love and off they go to the human world. Will their plan succeed? Yes, but only after they learn an important truth: that happiness cannot be built on someone else’s misfortune, and trickery or deceit will never lead to real joy. To live «like a human» means to love, to believe in miracles, and to help others.
In the finale, each character discovers that true happiness lies in being oneself and doing good deeds. And, of course, that only love and loyalty always triumph for that is the true power of magic.
