An evening of vocal classics on verses of the great Abai Kunanbayev is presented by the People’s Artist of Kazakhstan, laureate of the State Prize of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Holder of the Orders of Kurmet and Barys (Third Class), Professor Shakhimardan ABILOV.
This concert of works by Kazakhstani composers, including A. Zhubanov, L. Khamidi, Ye. Brusilovsky, Ye. Rakhmadiyev, N. Mendygaliyev, S. Mukhamedzhanov, and Abai himself, is dedicated to the 180th anniversary of the great poet, philosopher and educator.
Abai holds a special place in Shakhimardan Abilov’s artistic career. Since 1981, when he first appeared as the poet in the opera Abai by A. Zhubanov and L. Khamidi, he remains the only singer who not only performs works by Abai but also deeply studies his legacy. With solo programmes featuring Abai’s songs and romances based on his poetry, Abilov has performed in Moscow, London, Paris and other cities in Kazakhstan and abroad.
This evening, Shakhimardan Abilov will be joined on stage by young singers who are learning from the maestro.
