Opening of the XXXV Season! «ABAI»
We have lived through much in these years, whether well or poorly, we cannot say; but we have endured our share of life: we fought, we struggled, we argued, we contended, we have seen enough of life’s turmoil. Now we have reached the middle of our years: we are weary, we are tired; we have seen the futility and impermanence of our deeds, and we have come to know that all is vanity. So how shall we spend the life that remains to us? I myself am at a loss: should it be in serving the people? In tending to cattle? In seeking knowledge? In devoting oneself to faith? In raising children?
1890. Abai
Condemning the backward customs, the mute force and the fierce age that had persisted for centuries, Abai’s thought and philosophy paved the way toward a universal horizon. Though on stage these events unfold through the immortal dramaturgy of Mukhtar Auezov, carrying us back to the past century, they still speak with undiminished urgency to today’s audience.
