Hall of Ethnography No. 2.

On 16 September 2025, the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan opened a new permanent exhibition hall dedicated to the ethnographic heritage of Kazakh culture.

Ethnographic heritage is not only a memory of the past, but also a reflection of the spiritual world, traditions and artistic tastes of the Kazakh people, and a source of national identity. The new hall is a unique space in which the finest items from the museum’s collection are presented to the public.

The exhibition showcases jewellery worn by the Kazakh people and other Central Asian peoples from the 19th–20th centuries. A particular highlight is the 19^(th)-century saukele from Western Kazakhstan — a bridal headdress that symbolises beauty, prosperity and sacred protective functions. This masterpiece of national art is one of the most striking examples of the cultural richness of the Kazakh people.

The display also features traditional men's and women's clothing, as well as attire for the bride and groom. These were created by Yestai Daubaev and crafted by Aizhan Abdubaitova. These exhibits vividly demonstrate the richness of ornamentation and the diversity of traditional clothing.

A separate section is devoted to carpet weaving and felt products, such as syrmak and tekeme. These crafts, passed down through the generations, embody the ethnic identity and worldview of the Kazakh people.

The exhibition is complemented by chests, kebezhe and asadal, as well as other household items whose ornamentation and inlay reflect the desire of our ancestors to combine practicality with aesthetics.

A total of 258 artefacts are presented in the new hall.
