The libretto (based on Perrault’s fairytale) and choreography are by Raimondo Rebeck, known to our audiences for his one-act ballet How Long is Now? and Beethoven – Immortal – Love, which were very successful.
The ballet will present the familiar fairytale of Cinderella in a modern reading. The plot of the fairytale and the characters are the same, while the time and place of action are transferred from the Rococo period to the present day and back again. The romantic relationship between Cinderella and the Prince unfolds against the backdrop of the realization of their creative ideas: Cinderella (Ella) dreams of becoming a couturier, while the Prince wants to become a composer and a DJ.
The music of Sergei Prokofiev performed by the Astana Opera Symphony Orchestra is complemented by the atmospheric acoustic sound of contemporary popular compositions by Jimmy Durante, Billy Ray Cyrus and Louis Armstrong.
The ballet is choreographed in the neoclassical style, with elements of pop dance and breakdancing.
Cinderella is a kind and beautiful production for family viewing, with the idea of being able to realise one’s dreams, regardless of life circumstances and social background.
