The slang term pick-me-girl, often used in English to describe women seeking approval and attention, takes on an entirely new meaning in ARTiSHOCK Theatre’s interpretation.
Through dance, the actresses explore themselves, embodying diverse female stories, temperaments, and professions - revealing that the most important «pick me» is addressed to the only person who truly matters: oneself.
Director Yulia Tatarintseva explains: «Contemporary dance is freedom and the breaking of rules. Through dance, we can work with stereotypes about what is considered beautiful. Don’t be afraid to be awkward, funny, full-figured, mature, thin, or tall. In dance, all stereotypes collapse instantly - even at the stage of choosing what to wear. Clothing doesn’t matter. The performer’s body shape doesn’t matter either. What matters is understanding that dance is a language of communication - one that demands a special approach».
